The Founder
Founded more than 30 years ago, "Ummi" which refers to "mother" in Arabic, has been on the constant lookout for innovation and making cooking simpler.
Growing up with a grandmother who is a great cook, the founder of Ummi started to learn cooking at the tender age of 8. Her passion for cooking was influenced by her grandma and most of her inspirations came from her grandma’s recipes which were passed down generations. She is also greatly inspired by the cooking shows that she enjoys watching.
How it started
Ummi realised that cooking good food is time consuming as she needed to prepare basic ingredients, mix them together and finally craft them into delicious food. She wants to make cooking easier and enjoyable for everyone, especially housewives who would like to cook at home, but have time constraints due to work and demands of running a household. Thereby, she invented her own homegrown sauces and gravies. 30 years ago, Ummi decided to open her first store to sell basic ingredients and homemade sauces & gravies at Geylang Serai Market. It was a great success. Since then, she expanded her business further and we now distribute to over 40 outlets islandwide!
We want to make cooking simpler and fuss-free. Anyone would be able to whip up something that they would love to eat!
There are 4 main categories of food that are sold in Ummi’s stores - gravies, ingredients, keropok & crackers, and sauces & condiments. The gravies and sauces are made from fresh ingredients and manufactured in our factory. Keropok, a deep fried cracker, is imported from Terengganu (a state in Malaysia which is famous for this local snack) and we use vegetable oil to cook, making it a healthier choice.
With these pre-made sauces and gravies from Ummi, cooking becomes easy and convenient for everyone. Anyone can cook quality food!
Our goal is to make our products a staple in every household to create delicious meals!
Ultimately, we aim to expand our brand to other countries. We welcome like minded cooks who share the same values as us to join us in the form of business partners.
